Arbiters

Guardians of Humanity

The Arbiters are the enforcers of good behavior and overseers of magic at Reckoning.

The Arbiters are a group of non-player characters who act as marshals for the event, ensuring that the rules are observed. They can be identified by the prominently displayed orange colored items (hats, sashes, banners, etc.) in their kit. Like referees and umpires for sporting events, their purpose is to keep the game safe and enjoyable for the players. Arbiters will let players know when their actions are unsafe, detrimental to immersion, or are contrary to general LARP practices.

In combat, Arbiters will patrol the field of battle and observe that fair play is followed. Players who appear to have trouble keeping track of their armor and hit points will receive guidance. Those who are overly enthusiastic about wielding their weapons will be urged to dial it back.

Arbiters are responsible for handling questions about spells, magic items, and other magic related concerns. Arbiters will oversee rituals and determine whether rituals are performed successfully. Arbiters have the duty to disallow the effect of magic cast without sufficient verbal, somatic, or material components. They will also remind the targets of spells of how to respond to having a spell cast on them.

Broadly speaking, Arbiters are a resource to help everyone have a good time at Reckoning. Players should bring any concerns about personal safety and respect to an Arbiter, with the expectation of having their concerns properly investigated and appropriately addressed.
