The world exploded!
And in the blink of an eye, the world crashed back together. Fire, water, earth, and wind came crashing together in a cacophony of chaos and magic. As the land began to take shape and form, the magic sprang voices from each corner of the world. Each voice came from the elements of the cosmos and had minds and thoughts of their own. They explored their new home, unraveled the mysteries of existence, and began to shape creation itself. Eventually, these forces grew to know each other, along with love, learning, and loss, as we all must do. They are known as the Primordials.
Mún rose with the mountains and began to plant the seeds of forests with each step into the world. Erde began to flow from deeper below and filled each footprint with gentle waters to form lakes and pools. Licht burst onto the land and began to shape its edges and burn away what was overabundant. And Hummel flew from edge to edge to spread seeds on the wind that followed behind.
As time passed, Mún and Licht became fast friends causing the earth to tremble with laughter and celebration. They would find that they had taken great fun in each other’s strength. And similarly, Erde and Hummel grew quite close. They contemplated the future and the magic they sprang from. From these friendships formed the first of the Primordial Children.
Mún and Licht formed a mighty woman with powerful passion and strength. They named her Morrigan. Erde and Hummel created Danu as a companion to Morrigan. She was gifted with great magic and cleverness. The Primordials began to create and build in the hopes to please their children, and in so doing grew closer to each other. And as with all familiarity in the world, it breeds love and contempt. Mún and Licht, for all their differences, were too alike to remain so close.
Erde became the desire of Mún and Licht as they both fell deeply in love. Licht put on great displays of power and passion in the hope to impress. Throwing burning embers into the dark skies and geysers of fire from the ground failed to win Erde’s affection. Mún offered her gifts of life. When Erde would look away, Mún would create creatures to run through the forests, swim in the waters, and fly through the sky. They were all sent to play and live and return to Erde to tell their story before they took their rest. Such a beautiful gift was life, that Erde gave their heart to Mún. Licht was devastated and fled from their company to escape the pain. Hummel followed to console Licht and tend to their wounded heart. In so doing, Hummel was forced to confess a long love that they harbored for Licht since before the contest for Erde’s affection. Licht realized a shared love for Hummel, but to this day still feels the pain of a friendship lost for Mún.
Mún and Erde through their companionship formed Fossegrim, a playful man with a desire to explore and discover. Licht and Hummel created Belenus, a resilient man with a powerful desire to create and shape. And so, the second of the Primordial Children were born and roamed the creation of their parents.
The older children took their new siblings out into the world to explore. While Danu and Belenus were gentle and constant, Morrigan and Fossegrim were loud and curious. Soon began the playful struggle to claim corners of the earth from one another. Games and competitions became the language of the siblings. These competitions lead to more creations in the world and strange creatures. Some even praise them as the creators of humanity. While that may or may not be true, they certainly use humanity to continue their eternal game with one another.
Eventually, the Primordials decided to retreat into the earth and leave the world to their children. Before they left, they placed the Sun and Moon in the sky and gave them to Belenus and Danu to cast light and magic over the world. Fossegrim and Morrigan were given domain over the land and waterways to shepherd and lead the living creatures of the world. Their children can still be found roaming the world, discovering new and forgotten places, and playing games in the lives of mankind.
