Creating a Character
There are four general steps to creating a character at RECKONING, the first three can be done in any order.
Decide what kind of character you would like to play.
We have four classes in RECKONING: Warriors, Sages, Arcanists, and Artisans. Warriors, Sages, and Arcanists are the combat classes at RECKONING, Artisans may participate in combat but are generally non-combatants. You can read more about them on our Rules page.
Choose a culture to join.
There are four player cultures at RECKONING. They are distinct, with their own views, identities, and values. You’ll come to know the other members of your chosen culture like family as they welcome you into our world. Explore the options on our Cultures page.
Develop your character further.
Think about who your character is in the world of RECKONING, while this may be easier to finalize knowing your class and culture, it does not necessarily require it. You may have a specific character background already and find a class and culture that works well with it. Work with other players or even staff to develop your character into a “real” person within the world of RECKONING. This is entirely up to you, some players enjoy crafting a fully fledged character with stories to share before ever arriving at their first event, others are satisfied with only having a name. Getting to know other players and their characters at RECKONING will help you decide how you want to develop your character.
If you wish to create a character with ties to multiple cultures, whether through changing loyalties, or other means, it must be approved by Staff. This is not to limit your creativity, but rather to preserve the integrity and authenticity of each cultures’ lore and to provide a coherent and immersive experience for all players.
Lastly, get your character kit together.
Depending on the class and the culture you have chosen, you will dress and fight a certain way. RECKONING strives to be a high immersion world where you can lose yourself and become part of the story, and building a solid kit is half the battle. Look to other players for inspiration, and our general costuming rules, as well as the style guides and pinterest pages for your particular culture. Once you have ideas about how you want you character to look, submit the items to staff through email or DM prior to making any purchases or starting on any projects.
